Thorsten Brinkmann

SHORT INFO

Thorsten Brinkmann (*1971 in Herne, lives in Hamburg)has been working for many years with the objet trouvé, which is the starting point for all his works. He questions the supposedly fixed meanings of things and the much-discussed life of things themselves. Brinkmann seeks contact with the objects, or rather, the objects find him. This approach is often playful and subordinate to a certain principle of chance. The artist does not specifically search for the objects for his artworks, he encounters them, tests out what happens when contact is made and then experiments with the possibilities of appropriation, rearrangement, playful use and transformation. Brinkmann's work has been shown in numerous exhibitions in Germany and abroad (ICP /New York, Andy Wahrhol Museum /Pittsburgh, Museum of Arts Stockholm, Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt, Kunsthalle Bremen...) and is represented in numerous institutions, including the Museum der Moderne Salzburg, Fotomuseum Winterthur, Gemeentemuseum Den Haag, Sammlung Falckenberg, Museo de San Carlos/Mexcio City, Hamburger Kunsthalle, Sammlung zeitgenössischer Kunst der BRD. Brinkmann's works can currently be seen in the exhibitions "Dix and the Present" (Deichtorhallen Hamburg) and "Cindy Sherman: Anti-Fashion" (Falckenberg Collection/Deichtorhallen).
