Jörg Rode

SHORT INFO

Jörg Rode (*1957 in Siegen) lives and works in Hamburg. His sculptures are replicas of everyday situations and cultural ideas at the same time. The artist alienates the source material from reality - what at first glance appears to be a polystyrene plate, wooden board or cut lemon is made of ceramic, the rusty spot on a metal frame turns out to be a painting on wood. With his re-staging of aesthetically rather bleak minimalist situations, such as those found on many a street corner, Rode defines a space of aesthetic indifference in which melancholy reigns above all. Things that we wouldn't give a second glance outside are given attention here. And thus develop their very own poetry. In addition to scholarships (including the Karl Schmidt-Rottluff Scholarship) and numerous exhibitions, catalog publications have appeared in connection with: Kunstverein Ahlen, Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, Museo Alejandro Otero/Caracas and the Kulturbehörde Hamburg.
