SHORT INFO
Jörg Rode (*1957 in Siegen) lives and works in Hamburg. His sculptures are replicas of everyday situations and cultural ideas at the same time. The artist alienates the source material from reality - what at first glance appears to be a polystyrene plate, wooden board or cut lemon is made of ceramic, the rusty spot on a metal frame turns out to be a painting on wood. With his re-enactments of aesthetically rather bleak minimalist situations, such as those found on many a street corner, Rode defines a space of aesthetic indifference in which melancholy reigns supreme. Things that we wouldn't even look at outside are given attention here. And thus develop their very own poetry.
In addition to scholarships (including the Karl Schmidt-Rottluff Scholarship) and numerous exhibitions, he has published catalogs in connection with: Kunstverein Ahlen, Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, Museo Alejandro Otero/Caracas and the Kulturbehörde Hamburg.
