HIGH END

Joachim Grommek, Hamburg
08.09.2017 - 04.11.2017

Joachim Grommek (* Wolfsburg, lives and works in Berlin) Joachim Grommek studied fine art at the HBK Braunschweig, where he was a master student of Malte Sartorius and has been exhibiting in German and European institutions and galleries since the mid-1980s. His geometric-abstract paintings are characterized by the play with illusion and deception and always ask for a second look. Nothing is as it seems. The supposed plotter marks, the "adhesive tapes" or the visible chipboard surface - everything is pure painting. The "truth of the picture" turns out to be a sophisticated trompe-l'oeil. Grommek's work reflects art historical references and prominent artists such as Kazimir Malevich, Piet Mondrian, Blinky Palermo and Robert Ryman.
